What problem are we solving?

Is explain the problem clearly in a short statement. Use stats where possible e.g. 100 users affected or the size of the market.

What is the current state?

Describe the current state, how are the users doing this today? What impact does this have on them etc.

Why should we address this?

Here is where you need to explain why this is something we should invest in. A clear understanding of the size of the problem and the impact your solution could have is key.

Assumptions / Hypothesis

What assumptions / hypothesis are we looking to test as part of this? If we think the feature will increase the value of a product one hypothesis might be: Customers will pay for the premium version of our product (if this feature is added)

Why solve this now?

Timing is also important. Are there an regulatory commitments you need to hit? Has something changed from a customer perspective? Are you focussed on a particular goal and this aims towards that?

Are there any risks / dependencies?

What other work might you need to do to unblock this?

Is there information you don’t know yet e.g. unclear technically how we might do it at this stage.

Will this deliver an ROI in 12 months?

Effort vs Impact (or at least hypothesised)

Whats the plan to deliver it?

Get into a bit of detail about the delivery plan. High-level milestones and how long they might take. This would be the last thing you fill in, likely once you know its something you want to tackle.
